Divide or Conquer?

So I have a question of the community and want your opinion. I've recently acquired a large amount of sulphur, which can now be used for 2 things. Expanding to have a total of 6 towns or increase my generals score by thousands. Each have their advantages, but I want to know what you guys think.

Expansion to a wine island:
Pros:
Surplus of wine
Surplus of wood
More gold
Higher overall score
Cons:
Difficult to protect
Extremely high start up costs
Larger empire harder to protect.

Increased Army and Navy:
Pros:
Ability to protect current resources
Ability to protect players
Ability to deter attacking players
Low start up costs
Cons:
Less gold
Less resources to protect

After receiving input from you guys I'll let you know my decision.

Expand when you can. That's my philosophy. Nothing left to say.

put the town on the same island. It won't be that hard to protect. Besides if you acquired a surplus of sulfur, then you can acquire it again and then get more troops to protect them.

I've decided to get a new town in order to expand the empire!
