Thoughts on Religion
I know this can be a touchy topic to a few, but I just thought it would make a great conversation topic.
I'm not a religious person, but I come from a Christian family. And I can't stand Christian television

Re: Thoughts on Religion
I'm Chinese, but I'm not budist or anything. Ii'm also a christian. I don't watch christian television though. I believe that since Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and through that we don't need to follow the laws or religious days like the Sabbath like Jewish people. Hopefully I'm not offending anybody who is Jewish out there. I believe all you need to do to go to Heaven is to just admit you're a sinner, believe that jesus is god's son and that he came down to earth to save everyone. Also confess your sins to god and that he forever your lord. That's all you need to do.

Re: Thoughts on Religion
I agree there.
I hate Christian TV because they are a bunch of fanatics. Like today, my mom was watching the 700 Club and there was this guy who was saying that in order to save America, we need to elect a good Christian leader who will follow God's laws. I guess he thinks God is punishing America just like he punished Israel in the Bible.
Frankly, I don't think that God intervenes in the lives of mortals anymore. He just has the Guardian Angels watching out for us.

Re: Thoughts on Religion
Well, I not have any religious beliefs.
I only really like some thoughts and ideas in buddhism and satanism.

Re: Thoughts on Religion
I just remember my dad saying "Never talk about religion or politics...." luckily I'm typing
I'm with Calvin, I'm Christian, but I tend to slack off on church mostly because I have practice and school all the time. I tend to respect other people's beliefs even if they differ from mine. I know that there must be something out there that created everything. Even scientists are like "well basically there was nothing and than there was something...and it made a bang...a big bang..."

Exactly, that's why the "religion" called Deism makes most sense to me

Re: Thoughts on Religion
I am Roman Catholic and take my daughter to Mass every Sunday. Like Ming, I believe and it has helped in very difficult times. Not always understood why things happen but Faith believes not questions how.
Arthur- satanism? Is that just a curiosity that you want to explore?
Religion causes all sorts of problems sometimes and not sure I am comfortable writing this but if it helps us understand each other then fine.

My Thoughts
I have explored my faith for many years before I felt I found my true belief. I was raised as a Lutheran. When I was in high school I was considering becoming minister. i have also explored many other faiths on my journey. of a universal unitary church.
It is difficult to summarize in a paragraph or two an entire lifetime of exploration but I will make an attempt. I do believe in God - one that is everywhere and everything. Everything around us is all made of the same stuff - molecules made of atoms, made of proton, neutrons and electrons made of quarks. Ultimately I believe that the entire universe is made of light - photons. I am just waiting for the scientist to prove me right. As a result, I believe that the combined all of us are God. The collective we of the universe is GOD. god is with me because I am a small part of GOD. And like GOD, i can create.
I found it worthwhile to belong to a group of open minded individuals exploring their faith. It becomes another communities of friends. This community also provides me with opportunities to help other members and the ability to help other in need in my town. I have been a member of a Presbyterian, Congregational and now a universal unitary church.
Although I no longer consider myself of christian, I still feel that Christ was an important messager from God. I just don't believe that he did for man's original sin. I don't think God makes mistakes - and I was not born a sinner.
I also feel that christian dwells to much in the past - history. Along time ago some guys live in a magical time and had a extra special relationship with God. I do not believe that any time was more sacred than others.
I do believe in sacred places. Some places just seem special. Although I found the community of church important, it really a sacred place. For example, A stand of tree on my college campus was very special to me, a camping site in the woods and main cathedral in the Vatican in Rome.
I think that God will talk to everyone of us, but you need to learn how to listen. It can happen many ways: when the right song comes on the radio, when I get that shiver when I stand alone in dark look at the stars at night, in dreams, or sometimes when a though pop in my head that I did not expect. It took me time to realize my ability to listen.
I don't believe in Hell. I cannot image a loving god condemning anyone to pain and suffering for all time. Instead I believe in reincarnation - an opportunity to try again. And all energy is conserved - it will just transform to another form.
i also do not believe in the christian heaven. I do not want to live forever. If God is everywhere and everything, then being part of this ultimate being would be overwhelming. It would be like starring at a large white wall. I believe having a live in a limited time and limited space is the gift. It is an opportunity to come to understand how I am god and understand GOD.
Last of all, I believe that Christ taught 'What would I do if I could not fail'. The same message was in one of my favorite movies 'defending your life'. If I had no fear, what would I do?
